ABOUT US

WHAT WE BELIEVE

ABOUT THE SCRIPTURES

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration and the infallible, unlimited inerrancy of the Bible.  (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21)

ABOUT THE TRUE GOD

We believe there is one, and only one, living and true God, and infinite Spirit.  (Exodus 20:2-3, I Corinthians 8:6, I John 5:7, and Revelation 4:11)

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the second person of the Triune God, the Eternal Word, and only Begotten Son.  (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-25, John 1:1-4, Colossian 2:9, Hebrews 4:15, I John 2:1-2)

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature.  (Genesis 1:1-3, Matthew 28:19, Mark 1:8, Luke 24:49, John 3:5-6, John 14:16-17,26, John 16:8-11, Acts 11:16, Acts 5:30-32, Romans 8:14,16,26-27, Ephesians 1:13-14, and Hebrews 9:14)

ABOUT SATAN OR THE DEVIL

We believe that Satan is a real being, the fallen angel, the unholy one of this age, the prince and power of this world.  (Matthew 4:1-3, II Corinthians 4:4, Revelation 20:1-3,7-10)

ABOUT CREATION

We accept the Genesis account of creation and believe that man and the universe came by direct creation of God.  (Genesis 1 and 2, Colossians 1:16-17, John 1:3)

ABOUT THE VIRGIN BIRTH

We believe that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit in a miraculous manner, born of the Virgin Mary, and that He is both the Son of God and God the Son.  (Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:35, John 1:4)

ABOUT THE ATONEMENT FOR SIN

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  (Isaiah 53:4-7; Matthew 18:11; John 3:16; Acts 15:11; Romans 3:14,25; I Corinthians 15:3; II Corinthians 5:12; Ephesians 2:8; Hebrews 2:14; Philippians 2:7: I John 4:10)

ABOUT THE LOCAL CHURCH

We believe that a local church is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by the covenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel.  (Colossians 1:18; Acts 2:42; Acts 15:13-18; Acts 20:17-28; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:11; Ephesians 5:23; I Corinthians 11:22; I Timothy 3:1-7)

BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES

This church believes in the Baptist Distinctives that are based upon Bible doctrines that have historically been held by Baptist throughout the ages.  These Baptist Distinctives are:

A.  Separation of church and state

B.  Priesthood of all believers

C.  Sole authority of the Scriptures in matters of faith and practice

D.  Church consists of a regenerated membership

E.  Only two ordinances of the church, baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper

OUR HISTORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

Hillcrest Baptist church was founded On March 1, 1964, by Rev. Frank Holman, his wife, and three sons. In 1969 our property was purchased on State Road 38 which is where our current building is located. Hillcrest was Home to Hillcrest Christian School, Hillcrest Bible Institute and even Bible Printing Ministry. The Church has enjoyed God’s good blessing in so many ways. It has made an eternal impact upon the city of Richmond. Thousands of children have been reached for Christ through our still active and vibrant bus ministry. Countless adults have come to Hillcrest and grown and served the Lord. We have been blessed to have a church filled with faithful servants of God and we are a testimony for His faithfulness over the years.
